Zagadki i żarty (Puzzles and Jokes) is the fourth integral part of Porozmawiajmy... handbook, which is closely correlated with the beginners’ group curriculum. First of all, it supplements the lexical exercises but it can also be used as a help in consolidation of grammatical information. Grammar includes: Noun - pronunciation and orthography, dividing words into syllables, homonyms, synonyms, the structure of the word with the special focus on prefix and suffix, adjectival oppositions, degrees of comparison; Verb - meaning, aspect, various grammatical forms. Syntax includes: the basic prepositional structures, phraseological collocations, phrases, colloquial words and phrases, expressions, sayings and proverbs, entire sentences, which initially are expressed in the form of drawing books (puzzles, rebuses) and later in the form of a literary quote or even a poem.
Various semantic fields were used in the vocabulary aspect. From the simplest, such as animals, names of states, to focusing on everyday activities (kitchen, food, clothes) and more difficult including names of the items used less rarely, such as jewellery and flowers. We also referred to more “ambitious” semantic fields embracing, for example, famous people’s surnames, the names of disciplines and their activities or human features.
Vocabulary and some grammatical forms were extended above the elementary level in some part of the puzzles, having in mind the didactic objective, which is expanding language competence and possibility to use the language play by the students of different, more advanced learning levels.
