On Poland in Polish is a collection of 15 boards we hand right to you. This is the first didactic aid on the market designed to develop both the cultural and communicative competences in persons that are only beginning their adventure with Polish as a foreign language.
Each board presents a certain aspect of the Polish culture in connection with a linguistic task. It also presents Poland against the backdrop of European heritage. The boards include information on the influences other traditions had on the Polish language, legacy, science and everyday life. The vocabulary presented with the linguistic skills exercises, mainly the speaking skill, result from the intention-notion catalogue and the communicative functions defined therein. The visual aids are supplemented with a short didactic description, which should simplify the implementation of the cultural content as well as the communicational potential of the boards by the teacher.
Our aids are suited even for complete beginners! The didactic description assumes the levels A1-A2 above all others. Higher levels have been mentioned only briefly. Advanced learners have less difficulty with these tasks, which is why the detailed instructions are not required by them as much. The tasks concentrate on communication, some descriptions, however, contain suggestions for grammatical subjects. It is a hint for teachers that the material can be implemented in many ways.
We managed to draw some interesting didactic conclusions during the testing of the materials. It turns out that even at the very basic level of linguistic competence, interest in Polish culture seems to be the greatest ally for learners, since it allows one to overcome the language barrier and engage in conversations in Polish.
Each board has been designed as a language task which presents an aspect of the Polish culture or reality, depicts the cultural and linguistic rooting of Poland in Europe.
The boards encourage learners to speak Polish about interesting subjects, not just the ones from a book. A custom, everyday life, social structure, science, material and artistic culture stimulate authentic discussions. Even the illustrations of routing can unravel linguistic surprises.
The boards have been designed for A1/A2 language courses. The intention-notion catalogue along with communicative functions ascribed to a given fluency level have been used as a basis of the design. The boards serve, above all, to brush up on the speaking skill and enhance vocabulary. Various types of tasks - from picture stories to maps - help improve communicational and cultural competences.
Each board has been 'equipped' with a short didactic description with suggestions of various exercises scaled to the fluency level of the learner. For levels higher than A1-A2 we have designed additional exercises.
The boards constitute an invaluable didactic aid to teach both children and adults learning Polish as a foreign language. Easy to use and attractive in their form, they stimulate the learners to speak, spark their interest in Poland and its culture, facilitate the exchange of views and opinions. In a word - they do not bore the learners, they educate them.
